CD/DVD discs have lots of shortcomings, they are easy to scratch, hard to manage and slow to read. It’s wise for you to save cd/dvd to iso files on the hard drive and throw away these optical discs. Then you can mount these iso files as virtual CD/DVD drives at any time, backup them to external hard disk, or transfer to your friends via p2p sharing.
ISODisk is a free application which could copy CD/DVD discs to iso image files, and mount iso image files on your local hard disk or local area network to virtual drives. It has a straightforward user interface, you can operate it easily even if you are a novice.
